Why should I save money?

Many people start out thinking that they don’t need to save money. But it pays to get into a good habit of saving for four reasons.

Watch a video from the Money Advice Service about why it pays to save regularly here.

1. No-one knows what’s going to happen in the future

Saving money for emergencies means you don’t have to borrow or go into debt to pay for them.

2. Birthdays and other celebrations always mean extra spending

Saving for them means you don’t have to borrow or go into debt for the people you love.

3. Everyone deserves a break or a treat once in a while

You can use savings to look after yourself and your family without getting into debt to do it.

4. People are living longer than they used to do

When we get older or fall ill and can’t work you will need your own savings to rely on for every day costs.
