Changing the type of visa
There are many types of visa.
Changing from one type of visa to another in the UK is difficult because these changes are outside immigration rules. ‘Outside immigration rules’ means the Home Office standard immigration rules do not apply.

Getting visa conditions removed
You can ask to have some visa conditions removed if:
- you are supported by Social Services in the UK, or
- you are sleeping rough and have no income at all and no way of getting help from friends of family, or
- you have support from friends or family but they cannot help you for long, or
- you have a very low income and care for your own children
You must get proof of one or more of these things. Choose Getting proof below for more help with this.
Removing conditions will only be done once. Future visas will go back to the conditions you had before. This is because the Home Office expects you to sort out whatever problems you have.
