Getting started

 

There are 6 things you need to show to become a British citizen. You must:

  1. Be 18 years old or older, and
  2. Intend to live in the UK permanently, and
  3. Pass the residence test, and
  4. Pass a test called the Knowledge of Life in the United Kingdom test unless you are exempt, and
  5. Show you can speak, read and write English to the right standard, and
  6. Be of good character

You can show you intend to live permanently in the UK by ticking that option on the application form.
